Diamond Head State Park. Hawaii's symbolic landmark, Diamond Head is a 760-foot extinct volcanic peak overlooking Waikiki's coastline that’s known for its historic hiking trail, magnificent coastal views, and history. Towering over the beaches of Waikiki, Diamond Head State Monument encompasses over 475 acres, including the interior and outer slopes of the broad, saucer-shaped crater formed 300,000 years ago during an explosive volcanic eruption. While the 2-hour walk is a glimpse into the geological and military history of Diamond Head, the panoramas from the top reveal Honolulu’s landmarks, neighborhoods, and beaches.
